Members of the Caregiver Resource Network have formed a Speakers Bureau to meet the educational needs of family and professional caregivers, support groups, churches, civic organizations, and other groups within West Michigan.
Our speakers are prepared to present on a wide-variety of caregiver-related topics including:
Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care - including information on Behavior Management, Mental Health Treatment for early onset Alzheimer’s patients, and the Use of Psychotropic Medications
End of Life Care – including information on Hospice Care, Grief, Loss and Bereavement; Depression and Grief; and Leaving a Legacy/Telling Your Life Story
Family and Professional Caregiving – including information on Family Planning, Caring for the Caregiver, Caregiver Tips, Family Issues, Dealing with Resistance, Chronic Disease Management, Understanding and Adapting to Aging Related Loss, and Available Community Resources
Hearing Loss – including a variety of information and resources on Dealing with Hearing Loss, Assisting the Hard of Hearing, as well as Understanding the Needs/Issues of the Late Deafened
Legal and Advocacy Issues – including Elder Law, Estate Planning, Caregiver Contracts, Social Security, Veterans Administration Benefits, and Patient/Resident Rights
Leisure Activities – including information on Leisure Activities Designed for use in the Home, Those for Use with Others, as well as Individualized Activities, and Other Available Community Resources for Leisure Activity
Long-Term Care – including an Overview of Long Term Care, as well as information on Home Care, Skilled Home Rehabilitation/Preventing Hospitalization, Adult Day Services, Transition into Assisted Living, Helping Parents to Adjust to a Move, Nursing Home Issues including Choosing a Nursing Home, and Paying for Long Term Care
Mental Health Issues – including information on Available Counseling Services, and Older Adult Substance Abuse
Safety and Security in the Home – including information on Home Medical Alarms, Medication Adherence, Remote Caregiving Resources, and Emergency Preparedness for the Aging
Stress Management – including information on Dealing with Caregiver Stress, Relaxation Therapy, Therapy Dogs, and Pet Therapy
